📖 League Rules
📖 RULES
2026 Season • Chagrin Valley Conference • Est. 1997
The rule sheet covers any area of question in this league. Any topic raised during the season will receive a final ruling by the Commissioner. If a situation is not addressed, a league vote will take place. A majority vote is necessary to pass any changes. A tie will be decided by the Commissioner.
Prior to the Winter Meetings, all team owners will receive an e-mail listing issues to be voted upon. Voting responses will be counted into the final vote at the Winter Meetings. For issues raised at the Winter Meetings, all owners present take a vote with a majority needed to pass any change.
For league issues to be effective that change the original format or intent of the CVC Baseball League, they must be voted upon no later than the Annual Winter Meeting. Changes from a vote on or before this date will be effective for the upcoming season. Votes taken after the Winter Meeting will not become effective until the following season.
The League Entry Fee for each team is $285.00. World Series Champion: $700.00 • World Series participants: $300.00 • Divisional Series participants: $100.00 • Wild Card Series participants: $100.00. Team owners of the AL and NL MVP, Cy Young, and ROY receive $50.00 each. The remaining $350.00 covers Championship ring costs, website fee, plaque engraving and $100.00 Commissioner compensation.
The CVC Baseball League will provide the Championship owner $215 towards the purchase of the Championship Ring. The owner can customize the ring at their own cost.
The most recent previous champion will present the Championship Ring and Plaque to the current CVC Champion at the Annual Winter Meetings and at the Free Agent Draft.
Each team will submit one Draft Pick of the Year and one Waiver Wire Pick Up of the Year from their roster. Team owners vote to determine the winner. Owners cannot vote for their own player. The majority winner receives $50.00. In case of a majority tie, owners vote only between the tied players.
Each team owner will select one Rivalry Game to be played during the season. The winner of the Rivalry Game will receive $25.00.
The CVC Baseball League Champion can callback one CVC baseball player that has exceeded the 10-year CVC Hall of Fame Ballot eligibility limit and place them on the following year's ballot. Players can be selected once.
2Lineups
Starting lineups consist of a catcher, first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, three outfielders, a utility, two starting pitchers, two relief pitchers, one pitcher and one tiebreak hitter. The tiebreak player can be any active hitter not in your starting lineup.
All fourteen (14) starting positions are to be filled by an active player on an MLB roster.
Teams have a one CVC game grace period to start a non-active player on an MLB roster.
If a team starts a non-active MLB player for two (2) consecutive CVC games they forfeit a draft pick:
2nd Round Pick (or higher if not owned) — violation in odd year
5th Round Pick (or higher if not owned) — violation in even year
A non-active MLB player can remain in a CVC playoff team's lineup if no active MLB player is available on the active roster or no taxi move remains.
Pitchers started by an owner that start an MLB game CANNOT be pitched in the game immediately following the current game's final day. Game 1 of the Wild Card Series begins immediately following Game 36, therefore starting pitchers from Game 36 are ineligible for the Wild Card Series Game 1.
Lineups are to be set on the Rotowire website by the scheduled first pitch of a player's game on the first day of the scheduled CVC Baseball game. If there is an emergency, an owner can contact the commissioner with lineup changes prior to the start time of each player's MLB scheduled game that occurs on the first day of the scheduled CVC Baseball game.
If a player in a team's active lineup goes on IL, paternity or bereavement leave after the first day of a CVC game, an owner can replace the player with a non-active rostered player in their starting lineup. Owners can use remaining taxi moves to insert the player into their lineup. The tiebreak player is not eligible as a replacement player.
When the Rotowire website locks at the scheduled first pitch of each player's MLB game, any changes involving that player are final.
All lineups are final upon the scheduled start time of the last MLB game on the first day of each scheduled CVC Baseball game.
Failure to enter a lineup results in loss of starting pitching stats for that game. Each owner gets one lineup warning per season. If used, the owner can provide starting pitchers by 9pm ET on the first day. All hitters remain the same from the previous game. NO warnings starting Game 30 through end of post-season.
Each lineup submitted must be the most competitive lineup available. A vote of 70% or greater by all owners (excluding the owner in question and their opponent) causes the owner to forfeit their first draft selection at the following year's Free Agent Draft and all remaining supplemental draft selections. Each team receives one warning.
3Scoring
Hitting categories: batting average, OBP, runs scored, HR's, total bases, RBI's, and steals. Pitching categories: wins+quality starts, ERA, WHIP, innings pitched, strikeouts, and holds+saves.
Each team must receive 1/3 or more of an inning pitched from the total of their two starting pitchers. If this minimum is not met, the team forfeits both ERA and WHIP categories to their opponent.
If the tie-breaker hitters tie, the total stats for both teams' active hitters are totaled for the last day of the current game. If still tied, totals from the previous day are used. This process continues back to the first day of the game if necessary.
When a player on a team's taxi squad is started, statistics count as long as the owner has taxi moves remaining. The owner has until the start of the following CVC game to activate the taxied player. If not activated in time, stats will NOT count for that game. No taxied player's stats count if started in the post-season.
All stats for each CVC game are final when the next CVC game begins.
4Scheduling
Games will be played weekdays Monday through Thursday and Friday through Sunday. (Exception: Game 1.)
Each team will play division opponents four times and non-divisional opponents three times.
The division winners with the two best records receive a bye in the 1st round of playoffs. The remaining Division winner and three Wild Card teams play in the Best of Three Wild Card Series. The first seed plays the lowest remaining seed, and the second seed plays the highest seed in the Best of Five Divisional Series. Winners of the Divisional Series play in the Best of Five World Series.
5Rosters
Each team consists of a maximum 35 players, of which a maximum 26 can be active at one time. All players on the active roster must have or have had their contract purchased by an MLB team.
Taxi squads can consist of a maximum of nine (9) players. 15 taxi squad moves are permitted throughout the season.
Playoff teams are required to set 26-man playoff rosters before the start of each playoff series. Any remaining taxi move can be made before Game One of each the Wild Card, Divisional and World Series.
Playoff teams with remaining taxi moves can remove an active member of their 26-man roster and replace with a taxi squad player if the MLB player is placed on the MLB disabled list during the current CVC Playoff Series.
6Drafts
The draft for all even numbered years consists of three (3) rounds based on the previous season's final results.
For odd numbered years, team owners protect 22 players with all remaining players becoming free agents. Free agents enter the 13-round Free Agent Draft available to all owners. Any player not protected and not drafted will be placed on the waiver wire.
Supplemental drafts follow games 9, 19, and 31 (April 28, June 2, July 15). Each Supplemental Draft starts at 8:00pm ET. Each owner has 15 minutes to make their selection. If not made within 15 minutes, the draft continues and the owner can make their selection at any time during the draft. No late selections can be made past midnight of the assigned draft date.
7Positions
A player's position is determined by games played at each position from the previous season. Players with 30+ games at a position have eligibility there. The commissioner will determine positions prior to the season.
As of March 15th, 2026 (one week before the 2026 Free Agent Draft), the CVC Commissioner cannot adjust a hitter's position on an owner's roster. An owner can challenge any player position assignment by submitting an official challenge no later than 48 hours before the 2026 CVC Free Agent Draft.
As of Opening Day, the position assigned to each hitter remains throughout the season. Each hitter can gain eligibility at additional positions when they reach 10+ games played at a position. All positions are final as of August 3, 2026.
All starting and relief pitchers will be assigned positions prior to Opening Day. If a relief pitcher makes two consecutive starts, his position automatically changes to SP. If a starting pitcher receives three consecutive relief appearances, his position automatically changes to RP.
For odd numbered year seasons, the challenging owner can identify an additional tentative protection for each player position challenged. If the owner loses the challenge, the tentative protection becomes permanent and the player in question is released.
Players on the waiver wire on or before the position deadline (March 15th, 2026) have their position eligibility determined at the time of acquisition. Players appearing after the deadline cannot have their original position adjusted but remain eligible for additional position changes based on current season games played.
Players that fail to reach 5+ games at any of the positions C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS or OF will be assigned the position of Utility (UT) for the current season.
8Acquisitions
To be drafted into the CVC Baseball League, a player must be signed or have been previously signed to a contract with a Major League Baseball organization.
Players selected in the MLB Amateur Draft are not eligible to be drafted until the following season's CVC Baseball Free Agent Draft.
Owners are required to use the Rotowire website to acquire waiver wire players. After Wednesday March 25th, 2026 at 9am ET, all waived players must spend at least 72 hours on the waiver wire before being acquired. If within the 72-hour period an email bid to cvcbaseball@gmail.com is required. If more than one owner bids, the owner with the worst record (using Playoff and Free Agent draft tiebreakers) receives the player. A player who has spent more than 72 hours on the waiver wire can be acquired at any time using the Rotowire website. An owner acquiring a player not listed on the current CVC Waiver Wire will lose all stats for that player if inserted into the starting lineup.
Players acquired from the waiver wire during the MLB season are not eligible to be waived from the acquiring owner's team until the completion of one CVC game lineup.
Players acquired from the waiver wire during the regular season must spend one CVC game on the awarded team's roster.
Players who have remained on the waiver wire for three (3) full seasons will be automatically moved to the retired list. Players on the retired list can only re-enter through the Free Agent Draft or Supplemental Drafts.
Following each Free Agent Draft, teams can acquire any player listed on the waiver wire or retired list based on the current season's draft order through the Post Draft Waiver Wire Request process.
Following the Post Draft Waiver Wire Request process, the waiver wire will temporarily close. All waiver wire requests must be emailed to cvcbaseball@gmail.com and will be awarded based on the previous season final standings when the waiver wire re-opens on Wednesday March 25th, 2026 at 9am ET.
The trading deadline will be Thursday July 16th, 2026 at 11:00pm ET.
With the opening of Winter Meetings, owners can trade Free Agent draft picks for the upcoming three (3) Free Agent drafts. Team owners can trade Supplemental draft picks based on a rolling two-year calendar.
Waiver Trade Process:
Each team submits five (5) waiver trade players to the CVC office by 12:00pm the day following the trade deadline.
Buying owner contacts selling owner to place a claim. Buyer must post a 1st Round pick from the following season as collateral (highest pick if multiple owned).
Seller emails all league owners. All owners have 24 hours to submit a claim to the selling owner.
After 24 hours, seller notifies the league of the winning claim owner (order based on last completed game, supplemental draft order rules).
Buyer and seller have 48 hours to complete trade or until playoff roster deadline, whichever comes first.
Three possible outcomes: (a) Deal completed — seller can ONLY trade the single claimed player; buyer can trade any asset. (b) Seller takes the buyer's 1st round pick. (c) No agreement and collateral not accepted — player removed from waivers and cannot be traded or claimed by any other owner.
The waiver wire will close at 5:00pm ET on Monday, August 3, 2026.
